Midwifery in Massachusetts is in a moment of real change. Licensure is opening new pathways. Integration is taking shape. More families are seeking community-based care. And more midwives are stepping forward to meet that need. But growth alone isn’t enough.

For midwifery to be safe, sustainable, and accessible, it requires support—real, tangible support—for the people doing the work and the systems that hold it together. This Capital Campaign is how we build that support.

What We’re Building
The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives is raising funds to strengthen the foundation of midwifery across the Commonwealth. Through our fiscal sponsor, the National Foundation for Certified Professional Midwives, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are investing in the workforce, the pathways into practice, and the infrastructure that makes community-based care possible.
This is about more than individual programs. It’s about building a system that can hold the work—now and into the future.

Where Your Support Goes

• CARE Fund (Community Aid, Rest & Equity) — Midwifery is continuous, relational work—often carried without built-in backup. The CARE Fund provides coverage support when time away is needed—whether urgent or planned, for rest, recovery, continuing education, or life beyond practice. Safe, sustainable midwifery includes the ability to take time away when needed, without financial burden.
• Student Midwife Support — A strong future workforce depends on who can enter the profession. We provide direct support to student midwives navigating training, licensure pathways, and the many costs that come with becoming a midwife.
• Midwifery Education & Training — Ongoing learning is essential to safe care. Funds support continuing education, advanced clinical training, and opportunities for midwives to deepen and expand their skills.
• Equity & Access Initiatives — Access to midwifery care—and access to becoming a midwife—are not evenly distributed. This work focuses on expanding both: supporting a more diverse workforce and increasing access to care through outreach, education, and community-rooted engagement.
• Community & Chapter Support — Behind every practicing midwife is a network that keeps the work connected and moving forward. This includes coordination, communication, mentorship, and the systems that support midwives across Massachusetts.

Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Funds are used to support charitable, educational, and workforce development activities. Contributions are not used for lobbying or political purposes.
