For Midwives:
It is essential that the Midwifery Model of Care stays intact.
MA-NACPM is committed to ensuring that: the system bends to the model — not the model bending to the system.
That will not happen passively. It will happen because midwives stay engaged and shape what comes next.
This is where you come in. If you care about how this unfolds — participate.
Questions about Temporary Licensure?
Is this going to change the midwifery model?
It might — if it goes unshaped. Licensure itself doesn’t erase the model.
But systems have gravity. The question now is less whether licensure exists and more how it will be shaped moving forward.
Is this the beginning of over-regulation?
It could be — but this phase is not where that happens. Right now, this is largely administrative. The heavier regulatory decisions come next:
Will independent practice still be viable?
Yes — and it may also evolve. What’s more likely is expansion:
Are we being integrated or managed?
Right now — both are possible. Systems don’t yet fully understand how to hold CPMs.
That creates tension and uncertainty. But it also creates opportunity.
This phase allows CPMs to be in the room as those systems take shape.
Do I have to engage right now?
No.
