Board of Registration in Midwifery
On August 23rd, Governor Maura Healy signed Chapter 186 of the acts of 2024, An Act promoting access to midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth options (the Maternal Health bill), establishing the Board of Registration in Midwifery within the Department of Public Health.
With a nine-member board appointed by the Governor, the board is charged with establishing regulations to govern the practice of midwifery and overseeing the licensure of midwives. When making the appointments to the board, the Governor shall consider members with experience working on the issue of racial disparities in maternal health. The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Midwifery will require nine (9) members to fill these new board seats. The board will have openings for the following seats:

Meetings are held virtually via Zoom. Board members will serve a term of three (3) years, and upon the expiration of a term of office, a member shall continue to serve until a successor has been appointed and qualified.
